“Think in decades and act in days”
Happy NY all, I hope the break (if you had one) was what you desired it to be :) From my end, spending time with friends and family was awesome, getting a few good missions in, and keeping up with my training load as I build towards Tarawera in the not-too-distant future has left me super excited for the year ahead.
Often this is a time when people set big goals and motivation is high. This is excellent energy to harness, but what is important in support of these larger goals is a willingness to engage in and commit to the process. Perhaps it’s my time spent in finance, but I’m a big believer in the power of compounding. For me, it’s about the total body of work you put in. The amount of consistent deposits in the form of training and physical activity. From my end, that includes more than 20 years of running and being active.
If you are new to endurance sport, if you can commit to the training and build at the appropriate pace, I’ve got no doubt you can achieve your big 2024 goal. But what’s even more exciting is that if you stick at it, that big 2024 goal will look tiny in 3, 5 or 10 years. Your efforts from this year (and the years prior) will compound and you’ll be able to achieve much more than you thought possible.
2024 (and beyond) let’s go!
For our paid membership group I’ll be interviewing Nutritionist Dr Cushla Holdaway in the coming weeks to talk about nutrition for endurance and the common changes most people can make. It’s certainly been a game-changer for me.
Happy NY Dan, exciting year ahead for trail running in NZ for sure no matter where in the field you sit.
All the best for your Tarawera prep
I was just chatting with my friend about my disappointment in my improvement as a runner over past two years. So it's good to hear the encouragement that I am only one step up a long ladder!
